ATTN:Magazine Presents: Maja S.K. Ratkje in Two Films

Bournemouth's ATTN:Magazine presents two films exploring the work of Norwegian composer/performer Maja S.K. Ratkje: IJ Biermann's documentary Voice - Sculpting Sound and Ratkje's recent performance DVD, Crepuscular Hour.
Over the course of innumerable orchestral compositions, group improvisations and solo performances, Ratkje has established herself as a potent force within modern experimental music. As a vocalist, she combines primal improvisatory spirit with electronic manipulation, twisting the voice into all manner of strange and vivid shapes. As a composer, she traverses the entire spectrum of sonic expression, exploring sound as a vehicle for meditation, immensity and extra-musical phenomena.
Voice offers an intimate insight into her creative process and restless adoration of sound, following Ratkje over several years of performance, practice and collaboration.
Crepuscular Hour documents a performance of one of Ratkje's scores at Huddersfield Town Hall in 2012, bringing together three choirs, three pairs of noise musicians and a concert organ for a piece that shifts from peripheral restraint to spatially obliterative climax.
The films will be presented one after the other with a short break in between.
ATTN:Magazine is a UK-based website for experimental music and sound art, dedicated to the failures and contradictions in articulating the experience of listening. The site is run by Bournemouth-based writer/composer Jack Chuter.
This event is part of the Summer Club Sound residency at V22 Summer Club 2016.
