Felipe RochaRio Occupation London
6 May to 3 August 2012 V22 F Block
Actor, musician and filmmaker, Felipe Rocha has worked with artists such as Tim Crouch, Jerome Bel and Juan Domingues, and has worked with some of the most exciting theatre directors in Rio de Janeiro. Alongside Enrique Diaz, he created shows such as Rehearsal.Hamet. Rocha co-directs the theatre group Foguetes Maravilha, who has produced plays including the multi-award-winning Ninguém falou que seria fácil. He has performed at major theatre festivals, such as Spring Arts Festival, Shizuoka, Japan, Festival Chekhov, Moscow and Under the Radar, New York.
Mixing fact and fiction, Rocha creates a docu-drama on the story of the London River Occupation project. A Brazilian actor and a British actress meet in order to make a film under the backdrop of the Occupation. They fall for each other, but soon find out that their attraction was to the characters they play in the film, rather than to their real personas. A fictional and a true story cohabit the same film, exploring all dimensions of human experience in a place away from home, in a city occupied by people from around the world in a year of Olympic games and unlikely movements of migration.
