Louise House Girls' Industrial Home (c.1910)

Community Opening

Saturday 23 July 2016, 3–6pm V22 Louise House

V22 is delighted to invite you to celebrate the opening of V22 Summer Club 2016 at Louise House.

With the help of funding from the Mayor of London and the Arts Council England, as well as the support of HTA Design, the front garden and community garden to the rear of the building have been re-landscaped, the paths have been resurfaced and the whole site is looking much smarter. The two spaces: the large gallery space and the Community Studio in the Old Laundry have been refurbished. We have also been able to do essential works to the fabric of both buildings.

We would like to invite you the reopening of the laundry building where we celebrate the past, present and future of Louise House and V22 in Forest Hill.

There will be an exhibition of historic and contemporary photographs of the building and the area in the large gallery space. Artist, lecturer and Louise House studio-holder Rachel Emily Taylor, along with participants, will re-imagine past tenants of the building in her children's workshop: Louise House Girls. Sound recordists will be on site collecting people's stories about Louise House and Forest Hill to help preserve our collective heritage, and boards will be put up for people to write down ideas for the future. The newly re-landscaped community garden will be open and there will be a bar serving locally made drinks.

V22 Summer Club presents events, performances, screenings and happenings in collaboration with invited programming partners and artists, as well as new partners from local areas in which the Summer Club occurs. In 2012 it took place in our large exhibition space at the Old Biscuit Factory in Bermondsey, presented 252 events in partnership with over 1,200 artists and organisations, and was sponsored by Arts Council England. We are particularly excited that this will be the first series of events to be hosted at Louise House and that our long leasehold of 125 years enables us to develop this programme and these partnerships long-term and further form real roots in the community.

The programme will take place across four spaces at the venue and will begin concurrently with the school summer holidays. Thereafter the Summer Club will open every Thursday-Sunday until the end of August.

Opening weekend:
Saturday 23 July 2016: Community Opening:              3pm  – 6pm
