Open House 2017: V22 Orpington Priory

Sunday 17 September 2017, 10am–5pm V22 Orpington

Open House London is the capital's largest annual festival of architecture and design. For Open House 2017, V22 will be opening its doors at Orpington Priory for a day.

V22 is delighted to have been successful in the tender process to become the new guardian of The Priory, Orpington. We recognise that the Priory and adjoining library are important buildings in Orpington; not only architecturally and historically, but their position close to the town centre creates a special opportunity for the buildings to once again become an important part of the civic life of the area and wider London.

We hope to open the first artists’ studios in the old library building by the end of September 2017, although there is still building work to be done before that can happen. For the Priory itself, our first actions must be in line with Historic England’s aspirations for the building as well as those of local conservation officers. We look forward to understanding more of the heritage of this fascinating building and working toward restoring it and reopening it to the public.

As an art organisation we necessarily believe that art can be one of the cornerstones of civic life. The 125 year lease which we are entering into not only means that we can plan long term to create something of real value to the community and our artists, but also that we can offer sustainable and affordable workspace for artists and creative practitioners at a time when London is losing a great deal of its provision.

There will be hourly tours throughout the day from 10am-4pm (with the exception of 1pm when there will no tour).

We hope you will be able to join us to see and celebrate Louise House.

Anyone under 16 years of age must be accompanied by an adult.
