Drawing, repetition and gesture

Families are invited to join artists Sandra Keating and Nicola Pomery to experiment with drawing.
The workshop will explore repetition and gesture - responding to sounds, music and movement, following playful drawing instructions and intuitively working with different materials. As a family you will gradually invent strange and absurd drawing mechanisms, altering how you naturally move and in doing so create unusual and surprising mark-making. There will be time at the end of the session to share and talk about each-others work, discovering all the unique drawings created as a collective group.
Materials will be provided such as rolls of lining paper, recycled newspaper, pencils, charcoal, twigs, stones and bamboo sticks. You are also welcome and encouraged to bring interesting items and paper from home or perhaps collect random objects on your journey to V22 Louise House.
Most importantly under no circumstance bring any erasers! The workshop is all about being free with your mark-making and having fun. There is no right or wrong way to draw.
Sandra Keating is a multidisciplinary artist working with social commentary and the psychology of art through automatism and catharsis. With a renewed interest in environmental art and participatory practice, in 2015 she started to develop Project Wonderlands based on ecopsychology, involving socially engaged art projects, group work and experiential educational workshops.
Nicola Pomery is an interdisciplinary artist whose practice is rooted in process, observation and site-specific inquiry. She currently works at The British Library as the Family & Community Programmes Manager and delivers explorative educational projects for a diverse range of organisations and non-for-profit galleries.
Sandra and Nicola have been collaborators since 2012 and are currently developing a photographic and video series in response to the Thames Estuary, South Essex.
Suitable for families with Childer 5 years of age and above.
Anyone under 16 years of age must be accompanied by an adult.
