Sustainable Life in the Amazon Rainforest
Sunday 12 August 2018, 12–2pm V22 Louise House
Forest Hill author and storyteller Adrian Beckingham takes us into the Amazon rainforest, to spend a little time with the Yanomami Indians - who have lived sustainably in the world's largest rainforest for thousands of years. The inter-active story shares with us their view on the creation of the rainforest - how the trees, waterfalls, rivers, mountains, and caves came to be, as well as meeting the ancient beings who once lived there. We learn why it is that the animals are our brothers and our sisters, and why it is that people can all have good or bad days.
Following this there will be a presentation of A4 colour prints taken by Survival International, depicting life in a Yanomami village, with a Q&A Bush Survival workshop revealing some inspiring secrets about how they live their lives.
Anyone under the age of 16 years old must be accompanied by an adult.
Adrian Beckingham has been The Man from Story Mountain since 1994. He has been hired as a storyteller to perform at every Glastonbury Festival since 1994. Other venues where he can be seen performing include The British Museum, English Heritage and National Trust sites. Many of you may have seen him at local festivals in his full scale painted tipi. Before becoming a storyteller over 25 years ago, he was a national coordinator of Greenpeace Australia, noted for his successful campains to protect anceint forests, save the whales, and close down nuclear power stations. Adrian Beckingham is the author of four books, including Stories That Crafted The Earth which shares the ancient earth creation tales from indigenous peoples around the world.
