4 minutes 6 of Conversation
Saturday 27 August 2016, 8–9pm V22 Louise House
'4 minutes 6 of Conversation' (2014) is a multi-media installation which brings together archival dance footage in the form of edited tap dancing feet, rhythmic sound and a set of six sound sensory spot lights.
The video is collaged with a rhythm rendition of an archetypal 1950s Rock and Roll ‘Bo Diddley’ beat. The sound is amplified and picked up by the spot lights, positioned facing the monitor from a lighting tripod above. By selecting a non-programmed sound-sensory setting, the lights project colour at random in time with the audio.
The kinetic-rhythmic connection between the different materials makes reference to a physical presence. This is also reflected in the incorporated use of a blank screen, mirroring the still, physical pause of a live dancer.
Further developing this work, Boakye-Yiadom looks to experiment with incorporating a live drummer to replace the rhythmic, pre-recorded sound and create a dialogue between the live and recorded performer.
Playing the drums for the performance will be Geo, an established producer, writer, musical director and multi-instrumentalist, based in London.
Anyone under 16 years of age must be accompanied by an adult.
