The Mill
Sunday 31 July 2016, 2–4pm V22 Louise House
A screening of a work-in-progress experimental documentary film, by Patrick McGinley (AKA murmer) and Daniel Edward Allen, with the working title 'The Mill'.
In 2015 McGinley began exploring the Räpina Papermill in Southeast Estonia, making a series of sound recordings and photographs for Framework Radio's Framework500 anniversary release, which left him with a hope and desire to return and make a film about this amazing space. A few months later he returned with cinematographer Daniel Allen and they began collecting this footage. Working slowly, now, one year later, the final film is approaching completion. This 37 minute version will be followed by a listening session of Patrick's field recordings focusing first on his home, and then moving outwards to Estonia in general. This is more of a sound-diary than a sound-map, a personal perspective of his immediate earscape...
Patrick McGinley (AKA murmer) is an American-born sound, performance, and radio artist who has been based in Europe since 1996. In 2002 he
founded framework, an organisation that produces a weekly field recording themed radio show, broad- and podcasting around the world. In 2005 he first visited southeast Estonia, and relocated there permanently in 2009. Most recently McGinley has been giving presentations, workshops, and performances based on the exploration of site-specific sound and sound as definition of space. In live performance his interest in field recording has developed into an attempt to integrate and resonate found sounds, found objects, specific spaces, and moments in time, in order to create a direct and visceral link with an audience and location.
This event is part of the Summer Club Sound residency at V22 Summer Club 2016.
Anyone under 16 years of age must be accompanied by an adult.
