Tourism
Saturday 27 August 2016, 2–6pm V22 Louise House
Tourism is a multi-form video work comprised of footage shot by Dungan and Ericksen at and around the Jantar Mantar complex in New Delhi, India, in 2011. The Jantar Mantar is an 18thcentury complex consisting of building-sized astronomical devices, which allow the movements of the sun, moon, and stars to be measured and tracked with a high degree of accuracy. For several days, Dungan and Ericksen filmed from sunup until sundown, tracking the changes of light and shadow within the Jantar Mantar, as well as an adjacent Delhi street which hosts political meetings and demonstrations.
Each time Tourism is shown, a new edit of the work is presented. It has predominantly been shown on pre-existing monitors in public spaces. For the V22 edition of Tourism, Dungan and Ericksen will present the work for the first time as a 2 screen projection. The work will last for several hours, exploring the Jantar Mantar’s potential as a cinematic object. Live and prerecorded sound will be produced in the space by the artists in response to the video material.
Anyone under 16 years of age must be accompanied by an adult.
