James Worse / Stephan Barrett Duo

Sunday 31 July 2016, 12–12.30pm V22 Louise House

James Worse will be performing as a duo with Stephan Barrett at V22 Summer Club 2016. Stephan will have no prior knowledge of the text James will be performing and James will have no idea what Stephan will be contributing musically.

James is keen to find out whether it is possible to create a potent mix from an unseen text and a spontaneous accompaniment right there in the moment.

Who knows, perhaps it could be “As beautiful as the chance encounter of a sewing machine and an umbrella on an operating table.” - Lautreamont

James Worse is writing an ongoing epic, entitled 'Flark of the Dandibus’. He hopes never to publish it but instead for it to exist only in performance - like stories used to be, by the fire in a longhouse, in the good old days.

His ‘Worsicles’ have been heard on numerous radio programmes, albums and CDs and he appears regularly both as a solo performer and in collaboration with improvising musicians.

Stephan Barrett is a musician who currently performs as part of Georges Kaplan Presents and Postcards from the Volcano. The sonority of objects and sound-based wandering combined with the sonic possibilities of the piano and other instruments form the starting point for his projects.

This event is part of the Summer Club Sound residency at V22 Summer Club 2016.

Anyone under 16 years of age must be accompanied by an adult.
