The Potting Shed

The Potting Shed is a venture around improvised sounds curated by Jude Cowan Montague and Iris Garrelfs.
It's all about nurturing sounds and connections with a lighthearted approach to creating things on the hoof. So far The Potting Shed has held two events: the first took place at Hundred Years Gallery featuring John Bisset, Jude Cowan Montague & Iris Garrelfs, Cos Chapman and more. The second event was held at the Full Stop Café in Brick Lane and featured a trio by Viv Corringham, Iris Garrelfs, Jude Cowan Montague and a solo performance by Douglas Benford.
This is event number 3.
Performances by:
- Lab of Sonic Possibilities (Iris Garrelfs and Tansy Spinks) with an improvisation for angle lamps
- Jude Cowan Montague with new experimental songs from her Indian residency and beyond
- Artur Vidal performing Pauline Oliveros' "Environmental dialogue"
The Lab of Sonic Possibilities is a collaboration between Tansy Spinks and Iris Garrelfs in which they explore locations through listening and sound related activities, uncovering different perspectives on site specificity this reveals.
Jude Cowan Montague is an artist, writer and composer whose work may be playful, truthful, mysterious and subversive. She explores story, song, and visual ideas and is known for her improvised song stories inspired by working as an archivist for Reuters television news.
Artur Vidal is a saxophone player interested in the social dimensions of improvisation. He has been playing and recording with musicians including Eddie Prévost, Phil Durrant, Jennifer Allum, Roger Turner and Sébastien Branche, with whom he makes up the improvising saxophone duo ‘Relentless’.
Tickets are on the door and based on a donation. All monies go directly to the artists involved.
This event is part of the Summer Club Sound residency at V22 Summer Club 2016.
Anyone under 16 years of age must be accompanied by an adult.
